A 15-year-old apprentice has reportedly died after his arm was amputated following an accident with a metal lathe, according to WorkCover NSW.

WorkCover NSW is currently investigating the incident, which occurred while the teenager was working on a lathe at a metal parts factory at Condell Park, western Sydney.

The boy's right arm had to be amputated from the elbow down after he was rushed to Westmead Hospital, WorkCover said. He has since died as a result of his injuries.

"Tragically, this young man has subsequently died from his injuries," WorkCover occupational health and safety division manager John Watson said in a media statement.

“WorkCover has sent two inspectors to the site to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident”.
